Bobcats Stage Comeback Effort in Win vs Troy

SAN MARCOS, Texas– Texas State softball extended its home win streak to 13 games with a come-from-behind effort to beat the Troy Trojans 11-6. After going down two runs early and trailing 5-1 at one point, Texas State scored 10 runs through two innings to win the game.

Highlighting the night was Erin Peterson's first career home run, a grand slam in the sixth inning. The Bobcats scored 11 runs off 15 hits which included eight runs off eight hits in the 6th inning alone. In addition to Peterson's night, Aiyana Coleman hit her 14thhome run of the season while she tallied four RBI on the night.

What Head Coach Ricci Woodard said: "It was nice to see. We've been working at it really hard. We spent a lot of time yesterday working on our offensive game and the first couple innings of the game I was like 'oh this isn't going to work for us,.' But they did a good job of just sticking to the process, sticking to the plan, and came up with a lot of big hits for us tonight."

What SS Erin Peterson said on her grand slam: "I knew I had to hit something hard, and it happened to get out and that's pretty exciting. But I knew I had to hit it hard and get a few runs."

How it Happened:
Troy struck first in this one, starting the game off with a double and 2 RBI home run up the middle to take the lead early. From there, the Bobcats were retired in order in the first.

The Trojans attempted to play small ball in the 2nd, laying down three straight bunts for outs after their leadoff batter was walked. From there, Coleman was hit by a pitch to lead off the bottom of inning but the Trojans turned a double play for two outs, getting a third on a Megan Kelnar strike out.

Troy tacked on a third run on another home run in the 3rd and the Bobcats would again be retired in order in the bottom half of the inning.

Maddy Azua struck out two batters in the top of the 4th to nullify the Trojan attack. From there, Coleman was able to get the Bobcats on the board with an RBI single after Keely Williams singled to get on base.

The Trojans tacked two more runs on to their total on a 2 RBI double in the 5th, though, and the Bobcats had a four-run deficit to overcome. But overcome it they did.

It all started on a Sydney Harvey single to left and a 2 RBI homer from Kate Bubela. That gave the Bobcats a chance in the game, ending the 5th inning with a 5-3 scoreline.

From there, the Bobcats were full go. Azua retired the side in the top half of the morning, and Bass led off with a double in the bottom half of the inning. The Trojans opted for a pitching change after that.

From there, Ciara Trahan singled and advanced to second on a sac-bunt from Kelnar. Bass would score on Harvey's ball right down the left field line. Bubela then singled to left field to load the bases.

This was when, on a first pitch swinging, that Erin Peterson hit her first career home run to give the Bobcats the lead. A grand slam for her first career extra base hit gave the Bobcats an 8-5 lead with two outs still to play with in the 6th.

From there, a Bailee Slack single and Keely Williams double would put two runners on. On a full count, Coleman hit another home run this time to left, for her 14th of the season. That would give the Bobcats an 11-5 lead.

The Trojans hit one more solo home run in the top of the 7th, but the Bobcats iced the game and won 11-6 in the end.

Texas State is now 30-13 on the season, and 12-4 in Sun Belt play.
