Bobcats Fall to Troy Despite Coleman’s Record-Tying Home Run

SAN MARCOS, Texas– Texas State softball lost 4-2 to the Troy Trojans on Friday evening after an early error helped the Trojans get three runs on the board.

Despite that, Aiyana Coleman hit her 15th home run of the season which ties the Texas State's single season record set in 2017 by Ariel Ortiz.

What Head Coach Ricci Woodard said: "We have got to do a better job early in the game. We can't spot three or two runs all the time and think we're going to continue to win ball games. We've got to do a better job early. Sometimes it works out and you come back and win ball games, but it's tough to do.

How it Happened:
The Trojans got on the board first again in this one after an error from Kate Bubela allowed the Trojans lead off batter to reach base. Analisa Soliz had started in the circle, and she hit the second batter up to put two runners on base. Despite getting two outs in the inning, a double by the Trojans put one run on the board. Following that up was a 2 RBI single to make it 3-0 before the Bobcats had a chance to bat.

The Bobcats were retired in order in the bottom half of the inning.

After escaping the top of the 2nd with just one hit allowed, Texas State looked to come back. Leading off in the bottom of the 2nd, Coleman hit the program record tying home run off the batting cages in centerfield. The Bobcats would add another run on a wild pitch to make it a 3-2 game.

Soliz gave up the fourth and final run of the game in the top oof the 3rd on an RBI single to right field.

Emma Strood came in to pitch in the top of the 4th and didn't allow a hit for the rest of the game, walking just one batter in the process and striking out two.

Texas State got plenty of base runners on, with three hits and five walks, but were unable to bat any runs in. Despite playing a close game with the Trojans, Texas State went on to lose 4-2 for the team's first home conference loss of the season.

Texas State is now 30-14 on the season, and 12-5 in Sun Belt play.
