SAN MARCOS, Texas – Kyra Anderson will be joining Texas State women's basketball for the 2025-26 season, Head Coach
Zenarae Antoine announced Wednesday.
Anderson joins the Bobcats after starting her career at Tyler Junior College. In her time at Tyler her team went 21-12 and lost in the Region XIV Tournament Championship. Anderson played in 24 games for the Apache while averaging 12.2 points and 9.4 rebounds a night.
"Kyra has the ability to immediately impact our program with her IQ, athleticism and work ethic," Antoine said. "The sky is truly the limit for Kyra. She is a well-rounded student-athlete that is no stranger to hard work! At every 'stop' in her life (family at home, high school coach & junior college coach) she has been pushed and excelled."
Anderson was named Region XIV Freshman of the Year, All-Region and All-Conference. She also made the All-Tournament team in her team's run to the Tournament Championship this past season. Throughout her high school career at Huntington High School, she was 3A state runner-up and named to the All-Tournament team on that run.
"We are extremely blessed to have had Kyra start her collegiate career here at Tyler Junior College," said Trenia Tillis-Hoard, Tyler Junior College Head Women's Basketball Coach. "She is the poster child for what you can do when you put in the work. Her upside is vast, and the future is great. I can't wait to follow Kyra's career at Texas State."
Anderson is the first transfer to join the Bobcats ahead of the 2025-26 season. She is among three newcomers Antoine has added to the program this fall, joining two incoming freshmen Kaliyah Murphy and Angela Carroll.
What they're saying about Anderson:
Coach Shawn Jones, Head Coach/Athletic Director at Huntington High School
"[Anderson] carried us to a State Runner-up finish with her competitiveness and focus. She has just begun to scratch the surface of how good she can become. While she is a great player, she is an even better person. One of the best I have ever coached!"
Coach Matthew Andrews, Assistant Coach at Huntington High School: "Kyra Anderson stands out as the most dedicated and hardworking player I've ever had the privilege to know. She embodies the adage that hard work truly pays off! A true team-first player, Kyra not only excels on the court but is also an incredible person and teammate. She takes immense joy in the success of her fellow players and serves as their biggest supporter. I am beyond excited for her journey as a Texas State Bobcat; it's the perfect environment for her to thrive under coaches who are genuinely invested in her growth both as an athlete and an individual. I eagerly anticipate witnessing her remarkable development over the next three years in San Marcos!"
