NEW ORLEANS -- The Texas State women's golf team shot 10-over 298 to sit tied for third after round one of the Tulane Classic held at the English Turn Golf & Country Club. With 36 holes still to play, the team total is just four strokes back from leader Tulane.
Yvonne Chamness led the Bobcats through round one, finishing even-par 72 to tie for sixth. The junior is just one stroke back from a tie for fifth and four strokes off individual leader Josefin Widal of LSU.
Freshman
Ella Salama is +2 through 18 holes after closing her day with consecutive birdies on 17 and 18 to check in tied for 11th.
Miren Ontanon and
Mattingly Palmer each shot 4-over on Sunday to sit in 17th, while
Carla Bourdeaux rounded out the TXST lineup at +6 tied for 29th. Palmer also carded the event's only eagle so far, doing so on the par 5 11th hole.
Tulane tops the team leaderboard, just four strokes ahead of TXST at +6, while Cal Poly is second (+9) and Fresno State matched Texas State's +10.
