Eaton Homers in Series Opener at Campbell

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Senior Austin Eaton hit his team leading fourth home run of the season in the series opener Friday night at Jim Perry Stadium. However, it would be Campbell (5-9) coming out on top 6-1 over Texas State (7-6).

Ian Collier went 2-for-4 with two singles. Along with Eaton, Chase Mora and Dawson Park had a base knock apiece with Mora's being a double.

On the mound, Jake Murray (1-1) picked up the win after throwing six no-hit innings with a career-high 14 strikeouts while Lleyton Grubich earned his first save as he recorded the final nine outs of the game. Jesus Tovar (0-1) struck out a season-high nine in five innings but took the loss.

John Alkire, Dylan Kerbow and Hayde Key all threw an inning of relief. Kerbow was making his season debut and recorded three strikeouts, all of them looking.

The Camels struck their first time at the plate when Andrew Schuldt hit a three-run homer to left field. Campbell would load the bases with no outs in the second but only managed to push one run across on a sacrifice fly to increase its advantage to 4-0.

In the sixth, the Camels tacked on two more runs on a single with the bases loaded.

Collier recorded TXST's first hit of the night with a single through the left side with two outs in the seventh. Mora followed with a double but the frame ended with the Campbell shortstop catching a liner off the bat of Zachary Gingrich.

Eaton put the Bobcats on the scoreboard with a solo shot over the left field wall with two gone in the eighth.

Game two of the series is scheduled for a 2 p.m. first pitch on Saturday.
