SAN MARCOS, Texas – A Sunday morning contest saw Texas State fall 10-3 to Coastal Carolina in the series finale from Bobcat Ballpark.
Â
With the result, the Bobcats are now 12-15 overall and 4-5 in the Sun Belt Conference while the Chanticleers leave San Marcos with a 20-8 record and 6-3 in conference play.
Â
Picking up the win on the mound was Riley Eikhoff (5-1) after throwing seven innings with eight strikeouts and surrendering a run on five hits. Jackson Teer (1-5) took the loss as he gave up five runs on four hits and two walks in 3.1 innings with three strikeouts.
Â
Bryson Dudley threw 1.2 scoreless innings of relief with two punch outs. Setting a career-high of six strikeouts was Matthew Tippie, who tossed 2.2 innings out of the bullpen.
Â
At the plate, Caden Baker went 2-for-3, scored a run and drew a walk that was the only one drawn by Texas State batters in the entire series. Chase Mora hit a triple, drove in a run and scored once. Ryne Farber scored once and Alan Shibley recorded an RBI.
Â
CCU got on the scoreboard first in the third with three runs.
Â
Baker led off the bottom of the frame with a single to left center and moved into scoring position on a wild pitch. After a deep fly out off the bat of Samson Pugh allowed the freshman left fielder to advance to third. Baker would scamper home on another wild pitch to cut the deficit to 3-1.
Â
The Chanticleers would tack on two more runs in the fourth. One came on a fielding error and the other was on a double play. The visitors would add another run in the sixth and top of the eighth to go up by six.
Â
Farber hit a slower chopper towards his counterpart that he beat out for an infield single to start off the bottom of the eighth. Mora then smacked a 1-2 offering off the left centerfield wall for an RBI triple. He would score later when Shibley grounded out to the first baseman to cut the deficit to 7-3.
Â
Any chance of a comeback ended in the next half inning when Sebastian Alexander hit a three-run homer to put the game out of reach.
Â
Next up for the Bobcats is a trip up I-35 to take on nationally ranked Texas. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. from UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
