Mora and Teer Power Bobcats to Sweep

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Senior Jackson Teer had a strong start on the rubber and Chase Mora finished with a four-hit day in helping Texas State defeat Arkansas State 6-3 on Sunday in the series finale. The victory completed the series sweep and the first against a Sun Belt Conference opponent since 2023.

The win sees the Bobcats improve to 11-12 on the season and 3-3 in conference play while the Red Wolves leave San Marcos with a 10-13 record and 2-4 in the Sun Belt.

Recording the third consecutive quality start by a TXST hurler was Teer (1-4) after he went seven innings with five strikeouts while giving up just two runs on two walks and hits. Carson Laws recorded the final three outs to pick up his fifth save of the season. Take the loss was Jack Hibbard (3-2) as he allowed four runs on seven hits in an inning of action.

Mora matched his career high in base knocks and finished Sunday a triple shy of the cycle. He drove in three runs, scored thrice, hit two doubles and one home run. The only other Bobcat with a multi-hit game was Justin Vossos, who finished 2-for-3 with two runs and a double.

In the bottom of the first, Mora led off with a single. The junior worked his way around third on a ground out and fly out. Ian Collier would bring him home on an RBI single to right center.

The second began with Vossos hitting a double to left center. After Dawson Park had a hard-hit single through the left side to put runners on the corners, Mora drove a 1-0 offering to left field for a three-run homer. It was his 25th round tripper of his Texas State career.

ASU got their first hit of the game with two outs in the fourth when Drake Anderson hit a two-run home run to left that made it a 4-2 contest.

In the next half inning, Mora doubled down the first baseline. He would steal third and the throw was high, which allowed the Tomball, Texas native to scamper home to increase the advantage to three runs.

The score stayed the same until the eighth when the Red Wolves scored once on a ground out to Park.

Caden Baker started the bottom of the eighth with an infield single. Vossos followed with a single of his own to right field and Park laid down a sacrifice bunt to move both runners into scoring position. An intentional walk to Mora loaded the bases.

A 2-2 pitch to Alan Shibley was hit to the first baseman. He went home to get Baker but the throw from catcher hit Shibley, who was in the runner's lane, and bounced away from first baseman. That allowed Vossos to score to tack on an insurance run.

ASU was able to get a runner on in the top of the ninth via a free pass. Laws would bounce back with a strikeout and forced a foul out to end the game and wrap up the sweep.

Up next for TXST is a busy week that will see the team play five games with two midweek contests. First up is a meeting with I-35 rival UTSA on Tuesday in San Antonio followed by a Wednesday contests versus Incarnate Word in San Marcos on Wednesday. Both games are scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
