CONWAY, South Carolina – Texas State softball suffered its first loss of Sun Belt play this season with a 6-0 loss to Coastal Carolina on Friday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Erin Peterson led off for the Bobcats, getting a hit to start things off. She'd be stranded on the base when the Bobcats were unable to get another hit in the inning.
Maddy Azua started in the circle for the Bobcats, tossing the complete game and allowing six runs on seven hits. To start things off, though, she Chanticleers were retired in order in the first and allowed one hit in the second.Â
Mayson Garrett got on base for the Bobcats in the second from a walk but was stranded after a strikeout and a ground out after her in the order.
Coastal Carolina opened the scoring in the 3
rd with a three-run homer after back-to-back singles got the Chanticleers two runners. Georgia Hood's home run would make it a 3-0 game for the Chanticleers in the third.
Neither side got any runs in the 4
th or 5
th, but Coastal Carolina's bats came alive in the 6
th. With another home run for Georgia Hood, she gave the Chants a 4-0 lead. That, followed by a two-run homer after the Chants got a runner off an error by
Erin Peterson, made it 6-0 in the 6
th.Â
Texas State was unable to add any runs in the 7
th and would lose 6-0 to open the series at Coastal Carolina.
Texas State is now 19-7 on the season and 3-1 in Sun Belt play.

Texas State will continue its series tomorrow, March 22 at 1 pm (CT) against the Chanticleers. After closing the series at 11 am on Sunday, the team will then return home for an I-35 battle with UTSA on March 26
th at 6 pm inside Bobcat Softball Stadium.
