CONWAY, South Carolina – Texas State softball fell short of staging a comeback against the Chanticleers on Saturday afternoon, falling 5-4.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Sydney Harvey got on base first for the Bobcats as the second batter of the day off a walk. She'd score on
Keely Williams RBI triple that got the Bobcats the first run of the game.
Emma Strood started in the circle for the Bobcats, going 2.0 innings and allowing five runs in the process. She tossed the second inning, which was when the Chanticleers took the lead early. The Chanticleers started off the inning with a double and a single to get runners in scoring position. From there, one run would score on a single and two more on the next single. That, and a homer from Georgia Hood, gave the Chants their 5-1 lead after the second inning.
Analisa Soliz came in to pitch in the third inning, she gave up one hit in her first batter faced, a walk in the 4
th, and an additional single in the 5
th but got through three innings of work without allowing the Chanticleers to extend her lead.
Texas State was able to pull back three runs in the top of the 6
th, and it all started with walks from
Karmyn Bass and
Ciara Trahan that forced the Chanticleers into a pitching change. From there,
Emilee Baker reached on a fielder's choice as the Chants got Bass out at third.
Kate Bubela then loaded the bases on a single to left.
Bailee Slack forced the Chanticleers defense to make a play at home, which they were unable to do, and the Bobcats scored two runs off the defensive miscue. From there, an RBI single from
Sydney Harvey made it a 5-4 game. Williams grounded out to short to end the inning.
Soliz worked her way out of a tough situation in the bottom of the 6
th, getting outs with the bases loaded to keep it a one run game and give the Bobcats a chance headed into the 7
th.
Unfortunately, Texas State was unable to find the equalizing run and their comeback felt short. After three consecutive ground outs, Texas State suffered a 5-4 loss to Coastal Carolina.
Texas State is now 19-8 on the season and 3-2 in Sun Belt play.
