BOONE, N.C. – An 11-inning affair on a cold, wet and windy Saturday afternoon at Smith Stadium saw Texas State fall 8-7 to App State in the second game of the series.

With the result, the Bobcats drop to 8-10 on the season and 0-2 in the Sun Belt Conference while the Mountaineers are now 10-8 overall and 2-0 in league play.

Jordan Fisher (2-1) picked up the win after retiring the final three Texas State batters via strikeouts. Taking the loss was Jackson Teer (0-3) as he tossed one inning while giving up the winning run.

Starting on the mound was Alex Valentin, who went five innings, struck out two and allowed two runs on three hits and two walks. Carson Laws recorded 2.2 scoreless innings of relief with two punch outs while Matthew Tippie worked 1.2 innings in relief.

Both Ian Collier and Chase Mora finished 3-for-6 at the plate. Collier drove in two runs and scored twice while Mora recorded an RBI and a run.

Farber finished 2-for-5 with two RBI. Zachary Gingrich scored two times and Tabor finished with an RBI and one run scored.

App State got on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the first with a run behind three hit by pitches and one walk.

In the fourth, TXST scored twice on back-to-back singles by Ian Collier and Cole Tabor to take its first lead of the series.

The next inning saw Caden Baker reach base via a throwing error to start off the frame. A single by Mora and free pass issued to Alan Shibley loaded the bases. Farber would send a 1-2 offering to center that increased the lead to 4-1.

It would be a short-lived advantage as the Mountaineers scored once in the bottom of the fifth and five times in the sixth to go up by three runs.

Gingrich started the eighth by sending the first pitch to left center for a double. He would come around to score on a Collier single back up the middle.

The bases would be loaded after a walks to Baker and Tabor. Mora brought home a run on a slow chopper fielded by the third baseman. A wild pitch allowed Tabor to score and tie the game at 7-7.

App State nearly won the game in the bottom of the ninth but Samson Pugh threw out Tyler Figueroa at the plate on a single by Tyler Lichtenberger.

In the top of the 11th, the Bobcats were on the verge of breaking the game open. Mora led off with a double down the left field line. A bunt single by Shibley followed and Farber was intentionally walked to load the bases. However, the next three batters would all strikeout.

The Mountaineers would get a walk-off single from Joseph Zamora with two outs in the bottom of the 11th.

Sunday's series finale is scheduled for a 12 p.m. CT first pitch.
