NEW ORLEANS – For the third consecutive tournament,
Yvonne Chamness led the Texas State women's golf team, finishing 11th and helping the Bobcats to a third-place finish on the team leaderboard at the Tulane Classic.
Texas State finished 46-over, firing its best round of the event at +4 on the final day of action. The final 18 total was also the second-best round for any team throughout the tournament only bested by Cal Poly, which went even in round three to win the tournament at +27. Host Tulane finished second at +29.
"We played a difficult course in all different weather and conditions this tournament, and it was a great experience for our young team" Head coach
Par Nilsson said. "We struggled round two but I am very proud how we bounced back today. Miren's [Ontanon] 69 today was great and shows her capacity as a player."
Chamness (72-76-77—225) has now been the top finisher for the Bobcats in five of seven events in 2024-25.
Three Bobcats made significant gains in the third and final round, led by
Miren Ontanon (76-82-69—227) who climbed 18 spots on the individual leaderboard with her first career round in the 60s and low round of the day. The freshman carded six birdies, en route to a final round 69, to place her at +11 for the tournament and tied for 13th.
Mattingly Palmer (76-83-73—232) checked in at tied for 24th after improving 11 spots with her third-round 73 that brought her to +16 for the tournament, and
Carla Bourdeaux (78-82-74—234) climbed 12 spots to finish 18-over and tied for 26th.
Ella Salama (74-80-76—230) shot 4-over on Tuesday to secure a top-20 finish at +14.
TXST is back in action next Monday and Tuesday, March 17-18, for the Betsy Rawls Invitational hosted by the University of Texas in Austin.
