BLANCO, Texas – The Texas State women's golf team used a tournament-low second round to climb four spots on the leaderboard into a tie for first after two rounds of the Texas State Invitational held at the Vaaler Golf Club.
The Bobcats fired a 7-over 295 on the second 18, seven strokes better than its closest competitor, and sit tied with Houston Christian heading into the final round. Drake sits seven strokes back at 36-over to round out the top three.
Junior
Yvonne Chamness led the Bobcats on day one and currently sits at 1-under and tied for second, three strokes back from the event leader. Chamness went 2-under in the second round, giving her a sixth round under par this season, and added to her team leading birdie total on the season with six to bring her total to 44 to date.
Newcomer
Miren Ontanon made her way into the top 10 in her first action as a Bobcat. The mid-year freshman enrollee fired four birdies on the front nine of the first round and added two and an eagle on No. 2 in round two to sit at +4 and tied for seventh.
Ella Salama and
Allie Justiz are tied for 26th in the 63-player field, shooting 13-over across 36 holes, and
Carla Bourdeaux rounds out the Bobcat lineup at +15, good for a tie for 39th.
Individuals
Mattingly Palmer and
Hallie Adare are tied for 33rd at +14.
As a team, TXST led the field with a pair of eagles, four total including individuals, and 26 birdies.
The final round of action resumes at 8:15 a.m. CT Tuesday with a shotgun start. The Bobcats are paired with Houston Christian and Drake teeing off from holes 1-4. Texas State individuals open on No. 17 and 18.
