Women's Basketball Home for Cancer Awareness, Team Impact Awareness Games

SAN MARCOS, Texas— Texas State women's basketball returns home for its annual Play 4 Kay Cancer Awareness game and its Team Impact Awareness game.
 
Texas State will face the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers on Wednesday, Feb. 5 at 7 pm as part of its Play 4 Kay Game. The team will be donating money for every made free throw in the month of February to cancer research, and fans can pledge to do so as well.
 
The Bobcats will then host Western Michigan as part of the MAC-SBC Challenge on Saturday, Feb. 8 at 2 pm. That game will be part of the Team Impact Awareness Game. This game will highlight Texas State women's basketball's partnership with Team Impact and their teammate Lizzie.

SERIES HISTORY
With the Chanticleers:
  • Texas State has a 6-5 record all-time against Coastal Carolina.
  • Texas State has won the last two meetings between these two teams, by a 52-49 scoreline in 2024 and a 64-59 scoreline in 2022.
  • Coastal Carolina last won on Feb. 6, 2020 by a 69-59 score.
 
With the Broncos:
  • Texas State an 0-1 record all-time against Western Michigan.
  • Their lone meeting was Dec. 5, 1997 when Western Michigan won 64-62.

    • Three of the four freshmen played high school basketball in the state of Texas (Burks, Baymon, Winston) while Ramey is the lone freshman coming from out of state.
    • Ramey has suffered a season-ending injury and will miss the remainder of the season.
  • The Transfers: Texas State has added six transfers, including five Division I transfers. 
  • The Returners: Antoine returns five members from 2023-2024 to this year's team.
 
AROUND THE SUN BELT
  • Texas State was picked to finish 10th in the Sun Belt Conference preseason poll. Last season the Bobcats finished 4-14 in conference which that saw them finish 13th in the regular season standings.
  • After week six of conference play, the Bobcats are 4-7 and sit in 10th place in the Sun Belt.

ABOUT THE CHANTICLEERS
  • Coastal Carolina finished the 2023-24 season with a 12-21 record, going 5-13in Sun Belt play.
  • They are currently 15-6 this season and 6-5 in conference play.
  • The Chanticleers are coming off a 77-68 win over Louisiana last week.
  • The Chanticleers are led by 24th year head coach Kevin Pederson who carries a 41-43 record in his three seasons with Coastal Carolina. 
  • The Chanticleers leading scorer is Savannah Brooks who has 291 points so far this season, averaging 14.55 a night. She is one of three Chanticleers averaging double digits.
  • Alancia Ramsey leads the team with 141 rebounds this season for an average of 6.71 a night.
 
ABOUT THE BRONCOS
  • Western Michigan finished the 2023-24 season with a 12-18 record, going 7-11 in MAC play. 
  • They are currently 8-12 this season and 5-5 in conference play. They are coming off a 61-51 loss to Ball State.
  • Western Michigan will play at Akron on Feb. 5 before coming to San Marcos.
  • The Broncos are led by 14th year head coach Shane Clipfell who has a 180-203 record in his career at Western Michigan. 
  • The Broncos are led by leading scorers Marina Asensio and Hannah Spitzley who have 269 and 259 points, respectively. The pair are the only two Broncos averaging double-digits a night.
  • Spitzley also leads in rebounding with 104 for an average of 5.20 a night.
 
UP NEXT
Texas State will head back on the road for games at Louisiana on Feb. 12 and Arkansas State on Feb. 15. The Louisiana game will tipoff at 5 pm and Arkansas State will be a noon tip off. Both games can be streamed on ESPN+.
