COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas State softball secured its third run-rule win on Friday night in 12-4 fashion over Princeton.
Highlighting the night was
Aiyana Coleman with a 3 RBI home run, her 5
th of the season. That, paired with 10 Bobcats registering hits tonight completed a full-team effort night from the Bobcats.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Texas State started things off with a full count walk for
Aiyana Coleman, followed by her advancing and
Keely Williams taking first on a hit by pitch. The Bobcats were unable to score off the two runners, though, after an infield fly, strikeout and line out.
Maddy Azua started in the circle for the Bobcats though, getting a fly out and two strikeouts in the first inning.
In the second, the Bobcats put up two runs on sacrifice flys to take the lead. When Azua retired the side with three fly outs in the bottom half of the inning, the Bobcats came back to bat with a lot of momentum.
Sydney Harvey started things off with a single to centerfield, following by a double from
Karmyn Bass. After
Erin Peterson was walked to load the bases,
Megan Kelnar scored Harvey on a sac-fly. Bass would score while Peterson stole second. From there,
Kate Bubela had an RBI single. Coleman would end the inning on a three run homer to make it an 8-0 game.
In the 5
th, Peterson added a ninth run off an RBI double.Â
Princeton fought back in the bottom of the 5
th, though. They it a 2 RBI home run to get things started, but the Bobcats got out of the inning with the 9-2 lead.
After retiring the Bobcats in order, Princeton was able to make a dent in the Bobcats lead in the bottom of the 5
th. After
Abigail Jennings came in to pitch for Azua, Princeton hit two singles that'd score on a 2 RBI double to make it 9-4 at the end of the 5
th.
Texas State would go on to find ways to score in the 6
th, scoring on a throwing error after back to back singles from
Bailee Slack and Mel Reeves to start the inning. From there, Reeves would score on a Trahan ground out. After that, the Bobcats would score their 12
th run to make it an eight-run game off a wild pitch.
Jennings would toss three ground outs in the bottom of the 6
th to preserve the run-rule win.
Texas State is now 11-4 on the season.
