COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas State softball sits at 12-5 on the season after a win and a loss on Saturday afternoon, beating George Washington 6-1 and losing 6-0 to #13 Texas Tech.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Texas State 6, George Washington 1
Maddy Azua started in the circle for the Bobcats, allowing just one hit in the first inning. She'd go on to strike out 11 batters in the game, one shy of her career-best 12.Â
Texas State got on the board in the second inning off an RBI single from
Sydney Harvey, who scored
Erin Peterson. Peterson was hit by a pitch to reach base. From there, the Bobcats added two more in the 2
nd off two more RBI singles.Â
Azua struck out three straight in the second and two of three in the third. She'd allow her sole run of the game in the 4
th off a solo home run.
In the bottom half of the 4
th, the Bobcats answered with two more runs off a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly.
From there, the score stayed five runs until the Bobcats tacked on their sixth and final run in the bottom of the 6
th off an RBI single from Mel Reeves.
Texas State won 6-1 over George Washington in game one of the day.
Texas State 0, Texas Tech 6
Texas State got off to a slow start in the first, allowing Texas Tech to get four runs on the board in the first.
Emma Strood started in the circle, but four straight hits from the Red Raiders allowed them to go up 2-0. From there, a bases loaded walk gave them a third and an RBI fielders choice gave them the fourth.
Texas State was able to put runners on in the 1
st, but scored no runs. The Bobcats would be shut out against the Red Raiders, the first time a team has held them to zero runs in a game this season.
Texas Tech added two more runs in the top of the second off an Alexa Langeliers double and an RBI single that scored Langeliers.
Strood settled into the game at that point, have a 1-2-3 inning in the third and fourth. A runner would reach on an error in the top of the 5
th, but that was the only runner to reach in three innings for Texas State.Â
Texas State was able to get runners on in the later innings but were unable to put any runs away. Texas Tech wasn't able to put any runs on the board in the final five innings of the game and would win 6-0.
