Down Goes #1 Aggies!

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – For the second Tuesday in a row, the Texas State baseball team (6-2) pulled off an upset on the road. This time the Bobcats took down Texas A&M (5-2), the top ranked team in the nation, 7-3 at Blue Bell Park.

Earning the win on the rubber was Alex Valentin (1-0). He went 4.2 innings out of the bullpen, struck out five and allowed a run on two hits. Take the loss was Caden McCoy (0-1) after giving up three runs on two hits in 0.2 innings.

Making his second straight Tuesday start was Jesus Tovar. The lefty recorded seven strikeouts in 4.1 innings while surrendering two runs on five hits.

At the plate, both Ryne Farber and Samson Pugh went 2-for-4. Farber hit a home run and Pugh drove in three runs. Also plating three runs was Austin Eaton and he hit his third homer of the season. Cole Tabor drew three walks and scored twice.

Farber led off the game by sending a 3-1 pitch 353 feet to right field and into the Bobcat bullpen for his first home run of the season.

The Aggies answered back in the bottom of the inning when their leadoff man Kaeden Kent with a homer to centerfield. Two batters later, Wyatt Henseler hit another solo shot to center to put the hosts in front 2-1.

In the third, Austin Munguia was walked on four pitches to lead off the frame. Zachary Gingrich would follow two batters later with a single through the right side. A 2-2 offering to Eaton was smashed and sailed over the left field wall, traveling 394 feet, for a three-run home run to put TXST back in front 4-2.

TXST was able to load the bases in the frame with three consecutive walks. Pugh laced a full count pitch to left center that brought home two runs and increased the advantage to four runs.

In the fifth, Tabor led off the frame with a walk and then stole second. He would come around to score on Pugh's single to increase the advantage to 7-2.

Gingrich nearly added insurance runs in the ninth when he went the other way on a 2-2 offering. However, the TAMU left fielder made a diving catch to end the frame.

The Aggies got a run back in the bottom of the ninth on a Jace LaViolette RBI single. Trent Rucker returned the favor in left field as he made a diving catch for the final out of the game.

Next for TXST is a three-game series with Grand Canyon beginning on Friday at 6 p.m. from Bobcat Ballpark.
