HUMBLE, Texas – Freshman
Ella Salama shot even par across two rounds to lead the Texas State women's golf team on day one of the Chevron Collegiate at the Golf Club of Houston. As a team, the Bobcats sit tied for 13th with 18 holes to play.
Salama was the lone Bobcat to shoot under par on the first day, carding a first-round 1-under 71, that included four birdies with three on the front nine. The freshman went +1 on the second 18 to secure a share of the 37th spot on the individual leaderboard at even par.
Both
Yvonne Chamness and
Carla Bourdeaux marked 72 on their scorecards in the first round, with Chamness going on to finish day one at 1-over (T45) and Bourdeaux at 5-over (T69).
Rounding out the scoring team was
Miren Ontanon at +8 (T76) and
Mattingly Palmer at +9 (T78).
Hallie Adare is competing as an individual at the event and is currently in 89th place.
Texas State sits tied for 13th in a field that includes five teams in the top 25 of the Scoreboard rankings and seven in the top 50. No. 17 Texas A&M leads the 16-team field at -23, while No. 16 TCU is second (-19) and Maryland (-16) third.
The tournament concludes with the final round of action Tuesday. The shotgun start is set for 8 a.m. with TXST teeing off from Nos. 13-15 and paired with Texas Tech and Indiana.
