Opening Weekend Concludes with Sweeping Victory

SAN MARCOS, Texas – For the third consecutive year, Texas State (3-0) swept its opening weekend series after defeating Binghamton (0-3) 7-4 on Sunday afternoon at Bobcat Ballpark.

Austin Eaton (1-0) went six innings with three strikeouts while giving up a run on five hits to earn the victory. Take the loss was Colin Rhein (0-1) after he allowed six runs on seven hits and two walks in 3.2 innings.

Pitching an inning of relief apiece was Ryan Lawton (1 K), Cameron O'Banan and Braylin Timmons (2 K).

At the plate, Ethan Farries was 3-for-4 with three RBI and a triple. Theo Kummer finished with two base knocks, including a double, scored twice and drove in a run. Zachary Gingrich plated two runs and Ian Collier had a pinch-hit RBI single.

The game was scoreless until the third inning. Kummer led off the bottom of the frame with a single through the left side for his first hit in a Bobcat uniform. After he advanced to second on a Ryne Farber sacrifice bunt, he would eventually come around to score on a single by Farris.

With two gone in the fourth, Dawson Park hit a fly ball out to right field. The outfielder camped under the ball and started to head back to the dugout before completing the catch as the ball hit off his glove and onto the ground. The error allowed the freshman to reach second.

Texas State took advantage of the miscue and scored six runs in the frame with the first coming in a Kummer double to right center. Gingrich plated two on a bases loaded single to right and Farris drove in two more with a triple to centerfield. Collier's pinch-hit RBI single capped off the scoring in the frame.

The Bearcats scored the final four runs of the game with one coming in the sixth and ninth and plating two in the seventh.

Next up for the Bobcats is a trip up to Arlington to play at Globe Life Field. They will take on currently 18th-ranked Oklahoma State at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
