ARLINGTON, Texas – The Texas State baseball team (4-0) pulled off an upset Tuesday night at Globe Life Field with a 4-2 win over 19th-ranked Oklahoma State (1-3).
Â
Picking up the victory on the rubber was
Bryson Dudley after he threw 2.2 innings of relief and struck out seven.
Carson Laws earned his third save of the season as he struck out two in the ninth. Suffering the loss was Drew Blake (0-1) after surrendering three runs on two hits and a walk in 2.1 innings out of the bullpen.
Â
Jesus Tovar started and threw 4.1 scoreless innings with six strikeouts and two walks in his Bobcat debut. Also seeing action on the mound was
Matthew Tippie, who punched out two in his lone inning of work.
Â
Recording three of the Bobcats' five hits was
Ethan Farris that included a double. He also had the team's lone RBI on the contest. Both
Ryne Farber and
Samson Pugh had a hit apiece. Farber scored twice and coming around to cross home once was
Caden Baker and Pugh.
Â
Leading off the game, Farber was hit by a 0-2 offering on his back foot. After nearly coming home on a deep fly out the bat of
Chase Mora, Farber advanced to second on a balk. Farris brought the sophomore home when he sent a 3-2 pitch through the right side of the infield for an RBI single.
Â
With one out in the sixth, Ian Daugherty doubled to left and should then score on a Garrett Shull pinch hit RBI single back up the middle to tie the game.
Â
Pugh singled back up the middle to start off the top of the eighth and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by
Dawson Park. After an intentional walk to
Theo Kummer, Farber hit a shot back up the middle off the pitcher for an infield single to load the bases.
Â
Following a pitching change, a wild pitch scored Pugh. OSU made another pitching change and a wild pitch followed to bring home Baker who came on as a pinch runner. A crazy sequence occurred were Farber attempted to steal home and was initially called out. The umpires talked and overturned the call as they ruled catcher's interference that put
Zachary Gingrich on base and ruled Farber successfully stole home to increase the lead to 4-1.
Â
A lead off walk and double put two in scoring position for the Cowboys. Only one of the runners would score as Laws induced a groundout and struck out two to close out the game.
Â
Next up for the Bobcats is a weekend series at home against Illinois beginning on Friday at 6 p.m.
