Another Two Win Day for Softball After Games with Fordham, New Mexico

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State softball improves to 7-2 on the season after an 8-0, six inning run rule win over Fordham and a 3-0 win over New Mexico in Day 3 of the Bobcat Tournament.

The Bobcat pitching staff showed out on the day with two complete game shutouts from Emma Strood and Maddy Azua as they combined for 16 strikeouts and one walk on the day, allowing just six hits in the 13 innings of work.

On the offensive side of things, Texas State was led by Aiyana Coleman who had two home runs on three hits with three RBI. Kate Bubela also had her first home run as a Bobcat in the 8-0 win over Fordham.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Texas State 8, Fordham 0 (6)
Strood pitched the complete game in the circle for the Bobcats in the six-inning run rule, but she started off the first inning with two strikeouts.

From there, Bubela got the offense started with her home run as she sent the ball out to centerfield. Keely Williams would get on base in that inning, but after a Coleman strikeout and Karmyn Bass foul out, the inning would come to an end.

Strood recorded three more strikeouts in the second and third innings.

Coleman hit her 2 RBI home run in the bottom of the third. She'd score Williams who got on base from a Williams walk to put the Bobcats up 3-0.
Neither side was putting the ball into play much in the fourth and fifth innings, but the Bobcats came alive in the sixth. After silencing the Rams through six innings, Texas State found five runs. Starting things off was a Coleman single, then Ram errors helps the Bobcats get the rest of the way. Trahan reached on an error by the short stop, to be scored by Mel Reeves. It was Reeves first career hit and RBI.

From there, a fielder's choice and a throwing error scored Bass, followed up by a Sydney Harvey single to score Ciara Trahan.

The game would end on a Erin Peterson single to right field that tallied the final two RBI needed to put the game into run-rule territory. Texas State won game one of the day 8-0 in six innings over the Rams.

Texas State 3, New Mexico 0
Maddy Azua started in the circle and tossed the complete game shutout, starting her night off with one of her eight strikeouts. She'd retire the batters in order in the first and second innings.

Coleman once again scored the first run of the game off a home run, this time to right center. The solo home run would be the lone run of the game until the bottom of the fifth inning.

A pitcher's duel stemmed the third and fourth innings as just two runners got on base the entire time.

After Azua struck out two batters in the top of the 5th, the Bobcats came back to bat to win the game.

Starting things off was a Reeves triple down the right field line, followed up by Trahan reaching on a fielder's choice as the Lobos tried to make the play at home but didn't get it there in time. From there, they'd walk Mayson Garrett and Trahan would score on a fielder's choice from Peterson.

Despite getting three hits and loading the bases in the top of the 6th, Texas State preserved the shutout courtesy of a Trahan catch at the wall to get the third out and end the inning.

Neither side would put up any more runs, and Texas State would go on to win 3-0, shutting out both its opponents on the day.
