SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State softball finished weekend two of the season with a perfect 6-0 mark in their Bobcat Tournament after a 6-2 win over New Mexico on Sunday afternoon.
Emma Strood tossed five scoreless innings and allowed just one run in the result while the Bobcat offense was pushed by six different hitters registering nine runs.
Sydney Harvey tallied two on the day, as did
Ciara Trahan and
Kate Bubela.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Emma Strood started in the circle for the Bobcats, tossing 6.0 innings, registering eight strikeouts and allowing just one run and walking one batter. She improved to a 4-0 record on the year with the win. After giving up one run in the top of the 1
st, she pitched five scoreless innings.
The Bobcats had Strood's back in the bottom half of the inning, though, getting two runs to reclaim the lead. The runs came off a
Keely Williams double to right center and a Coleman single that put the Bobcats up 2-1.
In the second inning, Texas State added a third run off a
Sydney Harvey single turned error that
Ciara Trahan scored on.
Neither side added a run in the fourth.
In the 4
th, Texas State added three more runs. Starting things off was back-to-back singles from Trahan and
Kate Bubela. From there,
Erin Peterson would bat in the run on a sac-fly to left field. The final two runs came on a Mel Reeves single that scored Harvey and Bubela.
Neither side added any runs in the fifth or sixth innings, but New Mexico added a consolation run in the bottom of the 7
th inning to make it a 6-2 game.

The Bobcats will stay home for a midweek meeting with in-state rival Sam Houston on Feb. 19. That game will start at 5 pm inside Bobcat Softball Stadium.
