SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State softball is now 5-2 on the season after a 2-0 day on Friday with a run-rule win over SFA and a 4-3 win over St. Thomas.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Texas State 11, SFA 2 (5)
Emma Strood started in the circle for the Bobcats, she'd go on to tally seven strikeouts in just four innings of work, starting with two in the first inning. Despite giving up one hit, she'd strike out two batters two follow it up.
It took to the top of the third for anyone to get on the board, and SFA struck first with an RBI triple followed up by a sacrifice fly to go up 2-0.
From there, though, the Bobcats responded with a seven-run inning. Starting things off was
Erin Peterson,
Kate Bubela and
Keely Williams with back-to-back-to-back singles. From there, Coleman would walk. The Bobcats then forced two errors to go up 4-2. A
Megan Kelnar single to third base would add another run. Two more would come in on another single from Peterson to cap off the inning.
Strood would tally another strikeout in the top of the 4
th.
Texas State got the game into run-rule territory when Coleman reached on a fielder's choice turned error that would score two runners. The Bobcats added another on a Trahan triple and an 11
th on a Kelnar ground out.
Presley Glende would come in to close the game out, getting two strikeouts in the process.
Texas State 4, St. Thomas (MN) 3
Maddy Azua started in the circle for the Bobcats, going 4.2 innings with eight strikeouts on the day. She'd give up two runs, and one home run.
It was a chess match for the first three innings as either side was able to find hits, but not score any runs.
It took until a home run in the top of the fourth to break the deadlock, the Tommies going up 2-0.
Karmyn Bass had an RBI ground out in the bottom half of the inning to score, though, putting the Bobcats down just 2-1.
Analisa Soliz came in to pitch with one out in the top of the 5
th.
In the fifth an error would help the Bobcats get runners on base when Peterson's single scored one to tie the game. From there, Peterson stole second and Harvey went to score on a throwing error by the Tommie's second basemen. Peterson scored after a Williams single to give the Bobcats the 4-1 lead.
Soliz would give up a solo homer in the top of the 7
th before Azua came back in to close out the game. She'd get the final strikeout to preserve the 4-3 win for the Bobcats.
