Soccer Travels to Mobile to Face Jaguars

SAN MARCOS, Texas – For the final time in the regular season, the Texas State soccer team (8-2-5, 5-0-3 Sun Belt) will go on the road when it travels to take on South Alabama (9-3-2, 5-1-2 Sun Belt) on Friday. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 pm from The Cage.
 
The match will be streamed on ESPN+ and fans can follow live stats that will also be available.
 
About Texas State
The Bobcats are coming off a 6-1 victory Saturday night at home over Southern Miss. Both Alexis Montgomery and Jenny Ngankem recorded braces in the contest while Matsuri Tsutsui tied the program's match record with three assists. That night also saw TXST set a new program season record with its 38th assist of the year, surpassing the previous mark of 37 set in 2023.
 
When playing on the road, Texas State is 3-0-3 this season with Sun Belt Conference victories over Arkansas State and Georgia Southern while drawing with Coastal Carolina. A win or draw on Friday would ensure the Bobcats of an undefeated road record for the first time in team history.
 
Leading the team with five goals is the trio of Constance Agyemang, Helen Alormenu and Mady Soumare, who has scored four times against conference opponents. Katrin Agustsdottir has found the back of the net four times while Victoria Meza and Montgomery have netted three goals each.
 
Tsutsui leads the team with seven assists. Her total is the most by a Bobcat since 2013 and tied for the fifth most by a Texas State player in a campaign. Both Chloe Jones and Alormenu have been credited with four assists apiece. Registering three assists on the year has been Lilah Dupree, Kaylie Smith, Agustsdottir, Meza, Montgomery and Soumare.
 
Between the posts, Brooklyn Escobar has started all 15 matches. The freshman heads into the match with a 1.24 GAA, 44 saves and a .721 save percentage for the season. In conference play, she is sporting a 0.64 GAA, made 20 stops and has a .800 save percentage.
 
About South Alabama
The Jaguars enter Friday undefeated over their last four matches with wins over Arkansas State and James Madison and draws against Marshall and ULM. The lone conference loss was back on Sept. 26 at App State that ended 1-0. When playing at home, South Alabama is 7-1-1 on the year with a 3-0-1 mark in the Sun Belt. The lone loss was a 4-2 contest in the non-conference finale against Mississippi State on Sept. 7.
 
Zamiya Hill and Andrea Iljkic have both scored a team-high five goals. Ava Matherne has contributed four goals and four assists. A team-high six assists belong to Sofia Ferrante with four more being registered by Aliya Gomes.
 
In goal, redshirt senior Sierra Giorgio has started 12 matches. The reigning Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week has allowed eight goals for a 0.72 GAA while making 37 saves for a .822 save percentage and recorded six solo shutouts. Making four appearances between the posts with one start has been Jaiden Kinch. She has a 1.39 GAA, four saves and one shutout in 193:59 minutes of action.
 
Series History
South Alabama leads the all-time series 10-1-3. Last season saw the teams play to a scoreless draw in San Marcos to extend the Jaguars unbeaten streak in the series to seven matches.
 
When playing in Mobile, Texas State is 1-5-1 all-time. Only win in the series was a 1-0 contest on Sept. 23, 2018 that saw Kaylee Davis score the lone goal early in the 10th minute. Heather Martin helped preserve the shutout with a 10-save performance. The lone draw on the road was a 2-2 double overtime match on Sept. 27, 2013 that was the Bobcats' first-ever Sun Belt contest.
