Wunsch Named Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week

NEW ORLEANS – The Sun Belt Conference offices announced Tuesday morning that Texas State outside hitter Samantha Wunsch was named Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week for week 4.

The redshirt sophomore played a key role in the Southwest Showdown and helping the Bobcats to wins over UTRGV and Texas A&M – Corpus Christi. While being named to the Southwest Showdown's all-tournament team, Wunsch led the conference in kills per set with 4.78. With 43 kills per set she led the Bobcats with double-digit kills in all three of the team's matches this week.

Wunsch hit .417 with 43 kills on 84 attacks with just eight errors while leading the conference in points per set with 5.11, the only player to have over 5 points per set. She was also the only Sun Belt player to hit over .400 this weekend with 35+ attacks and to have more than 40 kills in less than 10 sets played. Additionally, Wunsch had a career-best .556 attack percentage versus UTRGV where she hit 12-2-18 in the Bobcats 3-0 win over the UTRGV Vaqueros.

This is Wunsch's first Sun Belt Player of the Week Award this season, but the third of her career at Texas State. She received two Player of the Week honors in 2023.

Catch the Bobcats in action as they start conference play this weekend on the road at Louisiana in the team's final road matches before returning home to Strahan Arena. The matches at Louisiana will be Sept. 27 at 6 pm and Sept. 28 at 1 pm. They will both be streamed on ESPN+.

The Bobcats 2024 season home opener will be Friday, Oct. 4 at 6 pm versus Troy.
