EDINBURG, Texas — Texas State volleyball dropped the last game of the Southwest Showdown 3-1 against UTEP.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Texas State battled through the first set, keeping UTEP within a few points until the Miners went on a 3-0 run to push their lead out to a 17-12 lead. The Bobcats were unable to slow down the Miner attack at that point, as UTEP swung .517 with 17 kills in the opening set. Texas State fell 25-16 in the first set.
The Miners started set two on a 5-0 run, but Texas State answered with an 8-2 run of their own to make it an 8-7 score early and force the Miners into a timeout. From there, the Bobcats were able to push out to a 13-10 lead that they held most the way through the set, ultimately going on to win 25-20.
Nina Moorer's two solo blocks and four kills led the Bobcats to the win, her second solo block clinching set point for the Bobcats.
Set three was a battle between the two teams with seven tied scores. Ultimately, Texas State tallied more kills, blocks and assists, but was unable to get the set three win. A challenge when the score was 24-24 went in favor of the Miners for them to win set three.
UTEP started set four on a 10-1 run that forced head coach
Sean Huiet into a time out. From there, the Bobcats were unable to overcome the deficit despite matching points most the rest of the way through the set. UTEP won set three 25-13 as they hit .424 and limited Texas State to just .069.
Texas State is now 3-2 on the season after a 2-1 weekend in the Southwest Showdown.
