FORT WORTH, Texas – Texas State's
Jordan McCloud was today named one of 36 student-athletes on the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award Preseason Watch List. The award is presented annually to the nation's best college quarterback.
A semifinalist for the 2023 edition of the award, McCloud was also the Sun Belt Player of the Year and threw for 3,657 yards and 35 touchdowns while completing 281-of-412 passes at James Madison. He also added a team leading eight rushing touchdowns for the Dukes on 96 carries totaling 276 yards. McCloud registered five 300-yard games a season ago, including a career-high 457-yard outing against UConn, and amassed 3,933 yards of total offense.
The Tampa, Florida, native has also previously been named to 2024 Watch Lists for the Maxwell Award and the Walter Camp Award.
The official Davey O'Brien Midseason Watch List will be released on Tuesday, Oct. 22, and will contain active quarterbacks from the Preseason Watch List, players honored as weekly Great 8 recipients through the season's first eight weeks and any additional quarterbacks approved by the selection subcommittee.
The Midseason Watch List will be announced Tuesday, Oct. 29, while the list of semifinalists selected from the QB Class will be named on Tuesday, Nov. 12. The Foundation will announce the three finalists two weeks later (Tuesday, Nov. 26). The 2024 Davey O'Brien Award winner will be unveiled live on ESPN on Thursday, Dec. 12, during The Home Depot College Football Awards.
Coming off a historic 2023 campaign, Texas State is favored to win the Sun Belt Conference's West Division, while eight student-athletes were selected as preseason all-conference honorees.
