Bobcats Fall in Battle with the Rams

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State (2-2-0) scored first but Colorado State (3-1-1) responded with two goals in an eight-minute span to take Thursday's match at the Bobcat Soccer Complex 2-1. The loss ended an eight-match unbeaten streak for the Bobcats in home contests.

Scoring the opening goal of the contest was Mya Ulloa on a penalty kick for her first tally of the season.

Texas State outshot the Rams 15-12 and had a 7-5 advantage in shots on goal. It was the first time this season that CSU had taken fewer shots in a match.

Victoria Meza paced the Bobcats with five shot attempts. Also taking two shots apiece was Annabelle Fisher and Ulloa.

In goal, Caitlyn Draper made three saves with two of them coming in the first 45 minutes.

Mady Soumare won the penalty kick as she was tripped up in the box midway through the 17th minute. Ulloa stepped up and buried the spot kick for her seventh career goal.

Exactly 20 minutes into the match, a Bobcat was called for a hand ball in the box to give the Ram a penalty kick. Maggie Altman's attempt was nearly stopped by Draper, who got her hand on the ball, but had enough power on it to get through to tie the contest.

Just over eight minutes later, Kaja Dionne used her speed to dribble by multiple TXST defenders and put a shot into the back of the net to give the visitors a 2-1 advantage.

Ulloa nearly tied the contest back up off a free kick in the 29th minute. The ball took a bounce in the box and went over the outstretched hands of the leaping goalkeeper. However, the ball hit on top of the crossbar and bounced twice more on top of it before falling out of bounds for a goal kick.

The Bobcats had two good chances to net a second goal in the second half. The first came in the 52nd minute when Zoe Junior took a shot from just outside the 18-yard box that ended with the keeper making a leaping stop. With just over 10 minutes to play, Chloe Jones sent a long-distance attempt towards the left side of the goal but a diving stop again prevented a score.

Next up for TXST is a match against Houston on Sunday with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m.
