SAN MARCOS, Texas – For the fourth consecutive meeting, Texas State and UTSA battled to a 1-0 contest with the Bobcats coming out this time Thursday night at the Bobcat Soccer Complex. Scoring the lone goal of the contest was
Mady Soumare in the first half.

With the win, the Bobcats are now 1-1-0 on the season while the Roadrunners fall to 2-1-0.

Credited with assists on the Soumare's goal was
Victoria Meza and
Mya Ulloa off a throw-in by
Kaylie Smith. Taking a team-high three shots was
Lily Erb while
Alexis Neal, Smith and Soumare took two shots apiece.

In goal,
Caitlyn Draper made five saves in her first appearance of the season. It was the sophomore's sixth career shutout to move into a tie for seventh in program history.

A physical first half saw the teams get called for a combined 22 fouls with 14 being committed by UTSA. The visitors also had players pick up two cards with one being a red in the 32nd minute to give a player advantage for TXST for the rest of the match.

Smith took a throw-in in the 19th minute that was headed by Meza. The ball deflected off Ulloa to Soumare, who shielded the ball from a defender. She took two touches and ripped a shot that hit off the bottom of the crossbar, bounced down and in for her first goal of the season and fifth in a Bobcat uniform.

Despite being down a player, the Roadrunners kept the pressure on the TXST defense and outshot the hosts 8-4 in the second half. The best chance for the visitors came in the 76th minute off a free kick. The ball took a bounce in the box and was headed by Kameron Kloza towards frame. Draper made a leaping save to keep UTSA off the scoreboard.

The homestand continues for the Bobcats when they host Incarnate Word on Sunday. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. with the match scheduled to be broadcast on ESPN+.
