Mahdi, Wilson Selected as Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Nominees

TYLER, Texas – Texas State student-athletes Ismail Mahdi and Kole Wilson have been named to the 2024 Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Watch List as announced today by SPORTyler, which recognizes the nation's college offensive player of the year who played and graduated from a Texas High School or currently plays at a Texas Division I college.

A nominee for the 2024 Maxwell Award and Paul Hornung Award Watch Lists, Mahdi led the country in all-purpose yards in 2023 with 2,169, including 1,331 yards on 223 carries. Mahdi registered 12 touchdowns to lead the Bobcats, with 10 coming on the ground.

His performance in his first year in San Marcos saw Mahdi named to six All-America teams. The Murphy, Texas native also was a two-time all-conference selection with first team accolades as an all-purpose back and second-team honors as a return specialist.

Wilson was an All-Sun Belt Honorable Mention selection in 2023, starting all 13 games and totaling 66 receptions for 747 yards and eight touchdowns, while adding 10 kick returns for 367 yards and a touchdown.

The preseason award Watch List will be selected from nominations submitted by the sports information directors of each Division I school. Each week during the regular season, an Earl Campbell Tyler Rose National Player of the Week will be selected leading up to the finalists announcement in December.
