NORMAN, Okla. – The Texas State men's golf team earned the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) Presidents Special Recognition award on Tuesday.
The honor is given to men's golf teams that have a team grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 or higher. The Bobcats were one of 59 Division I programs and one of two from the Sun Belt Conference, with the other being James Madison, to earn the accolade.
For the 2023-24 school year, Texas State posted a 3.80 GPA. The team set a program with its highest GPA ever for a semester with a 3.91 GPA during the spring term.
This past year saw the Bobcats record four top five finishes that included claiming the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate title. They qualified for match play in the Sun Belt Conference Championship for the first time in team history after tying for third in the 72-hole stroke play portion.
Established in 1958, the GCAA is the professional organization of men's collegiate golf coaches. The organization's mission is to support its member coaches from six divisions, including the NCAA, NAIA and NJCAA, by creating educational opportunities, providing resources, and promoting its members with the purpose of enhancing their overall performance as coaches, mentors, and teachers. The GCAA also recognizes the excellence and achievements of its members and their student-athletes in academic, athletic, and civic endeavors.
