Softball Ready for Sun Belt Tournament in San Marcos

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State softball is prepped and ready for its postseason play to begin. The Bobcats will enter the Sun Belt Tournament in its home stadium as the #2 seed.
 
The Bobcats first opponent is to be determined as they will play the winner of the first-round match up between Georgia Southern and Marshall. The Bobcats game will be Thursday, May 9 at 7 pm. 
 
All nine games of the tournament will be streamed on ESPN+ with Noah Frary and Dorian Craft on the call. Fans can also buy tickets to attend in person in Bobcat Softball Stadium at txst.com/tickets.
 
ABOUT THE BOBCATS:
Texas State comes into the postseason with a 42-13 (18-6 SBC) record coming off a series sweep over Marshall, one of the schools they may face in the opening round.
 
Leading the offense for the Bobcats going into the week is Hannah Earls who's batting .368. She has 70 hits, 33 runs and nine RBI in 190 at-bats. Sara Vanderford is also helping the Bobcat offense with a .352 batting averaging as she's good for 57 hits, 41 runs and 43 RBI in 155 at-bats. Rounding out the top of the order are Piper Randolph who's batting .314 and Anna Jones batting .309.

Jessica Mullins been the Bobcats ace pitcher this season with her 1.21 ERA. She has pitched 213.1 innings so far this season with 196 strikeouts, allowing 37 earned runs, 42 walked batters and just 30 extra-base hits allowed. She has tossed 16 complete games including one perfect game. She also has three saves on the season.
 
The Bobcats have two nationally recognized players on its roster, third basemen Sara Vanderford and pitcher Jessica Mullins. Vanderford was tabbed as the 10th best 3B player in the nation by Softball America. Mullins was named the #5 pitcher in the nation by them as well.

THE TOURNAMENT FIELD:
The Bobcats will play the winner of the game between Georgia Southern and Marshall in their opening game of the tournament. The Bobcats are coming off three wins against the Thundering Herd as they enter tournament play, with a 5-1 record against them all time. 
 
Texas State has a 20-3 record all-time against Georgia Southern, with their last loss coming in April of 2017 when the Bobcats went to Statesboro. In San Marcos, the Bobcats are 9-2.
 
The Bobcats also start on the side of the bracket with South Alabama and ULM. The Bobcats won both series against these sides on the road this season, winning two of three games against South Alabama and sweeping ULM.
 
Texas State has a 19-10 record all-time against South Alabama, including a 9-6 record inside Bobcat Softball Stadium. Texas State has a 51-37 record against the ULM Warhawks, with a 27-11 record in San Marcos.
 
HISTORY IN THE SUN BELT TOURNAMENT:
In 2023 the Bobcats bowed out of the tournament in the semi-finals after a 4-1 loss to Louisiana. The Bobcats beat Troy 3-0 in the opening round of the tournament that year.
 
The Bobcats are 13-12 all-time in the Sun Belt Conference tournament. Texas State won the 2018 edition of the Sun Belt Tournament where they defeated Louisiana 5-2 to win it. 
 
This is the fourth time the Bobcats have hosted the tournament, having previously hosted in 2015, 2016 and 2019. Texas State is 4-5 in the SBC Tournament when it's held in San Marcos.
 
UP NEXT:
The Bobcats would play on May 10th at 7 pm against the winner of the ULM and South Alabama game if they win their quarterfinal match up.
