WBB Brings Ja'Mia Harris Back Home

The Kansas State transfer returns to Texas as she signs with Texas State women's basketball

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Ja'Mia Harris, a transfer from Kansas State, will be joining Texas State women's basketball ahead of the 2024-25 season. 
 
Harris joins the Bobcats after two seasons with the Wildcats, but only having competed one season after a season-ending injury her freshman season. Harris is a Texas native out of Lancaster, having played as Desoto High School for her prep career. Coming to Texas State is a homecoming for the guard. 
 
"Ja'Mia automatically brings a winning mentality," said Head Coach Zenarae Antoine. "Her resume from high school, college and academics are all noteworthy.  In all arenas she was a part of success and her work ethic and want to will positively impact our program."
 
Prior to her time at Kansas State, Harris had a slew of accolades in her high school career. She helped Desoto High School to the 2022 Texas 6A State championship and was named State Championship MVP. She averaged 17 points and five rebounds a night during her senior season. She was also named the 2020 Texas 6A Offensive MVP while averaging 15.0 points per game that season.

Harris is the fifth transfer to join the Bobcats ahead of the 2024-25 season, totaling a group of nine incoming players for next season. She is joined by Howard transfer Taleyiah Gibbs, Bucknell transfer Blake Matthews, Incarnate Word transfer Destiny Terrell, Oklahoma State transfer Mia Galbraith, and four freshmen, Saniya Burks, Heather Baymon, Takeira Ramey and Melinda Winston.

Former Head Coach at Desoto High School Andrea Robinson: "Ja'Mia is a combo explosive guard that rebounds, runs the floor, and can score the ball. In high school, she was a 2x state champion winning the states MVP her senior year and district offensive MVP two years in a row. She is a fierce competitor making it extremely easy to coach her because not only does she refuse to lose, winning is more important than anything. She has always been willing to do winning things which has made her so fun to coach! Ja'Mia will be a great addition to any team on any level."
