Softball to Visit #5 Texas in Midweek Matchup

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State softball is set to head on the road for a game up I-35 with #5 Texas Longhorns. This will be the second of two meetings scheduled between these two teams this season.
 
The game will be Wednesday, April 10 at 4:30 pm and will be streamed on the Longhorn Network.
 
LAST TIME OUT:
Last time these Bobcats faced the Longhorns they lost 1-0 on February 28, 2024. The last time the Bobcats were at McCombs Field, they won 5-4 in a nine inning battle as part of the Bevo Classic in March 2023. The Bobcats have 10 wins at McCombs Field in program history.
 
ABOUT THE BOBCATS:
Texas State goes into the weekend with a 32-9 record coming off a three-win week which included two wins over Troy and a 6-1 win over #21 Baylor. The Bobcats have won 10 of their last 12 games.
 
Leading the offense for the Bobcats going into the week is Hannah Earls who's batting .387. She has 55 hits, 29 runs and six RBI in 142 at-bats. Sara Vanderford is also helping the Bobcat offense with a .361 batting averaging as she's good for 43 hits, 33 runs and 34 RBI in 119 at-bats. JJ Smith also comes into the week with a hot bat as she's batting .280 on the season but coming off a weekend with three home runs and eight RBI.
 
Jessica Mullins has been the Bobcats ace pitcher this season with her 0.78 ERA. She has pitched 162.0 innings so far this season with 154 strikeouts, 18 earned runs, 28 walked batters and just 19 extra-base hits allowed. She has tossed 14 complete games including one perfect game.


ABOUT THE LONGHORNS:
Texas comes into the game with a 31-6 record off a series win over #1 Oklahoma last weekend, going 2-1 in the series. The Longhorns have a 16-2 record so far this season. They're led by Mike White who is in his 15th season with the program and holds a 671-188-3 record all-time.
 
The Longhorns have five players hitting over the .375 mark this season including Ashton Maloney (.417), Joley Mitchell (.416), Kayden Henry (.382), Reese Atwood (.381) and Mia Scott (.381). Atwood leads the team with 12 home runs and 53 RBI as well.
 
Pitching for Texas is likely to be Teagan Kavan. She has 18 appearances and 14 starts for the Longhorns this season. She has a 1.85 ERA with five complete games. She's pitched 72.0 innings, allowing 45 hits and 21 runs. She has 73 strikeouts so far this season and batters average .170 against her.
 
UP NEXT:
The Bobcats will return home for a conference play series against #24 Louisiana. The first game of the three-game series is Friday, April 12 at 6 pm. On the Saturday game of the series the Bobcats will honor seniors Hannah Earls and Piper Randolph. The Sunday game will honor Jessica Mullins and JJ Smith.
