HUNTINGTON, W. VA. – Both
Daylan Pena and
Kameron Weil had two base hits apiece in Saturday afternoon's game. That would be all the offense Texas State mustered at Jack Cook Field as Marshall claimed the contest 5-0.
Â
The Bobcats fell to 15-16 on the season and 4-7 in the Sun Belt Conference while the Thundering Herd are now 11-18 and 5-6 in league play.
Â
Sam Hall (1-3) went six innings but surrendered four runs on five hits and four walks to take the loss. Bryce Blevins (2-0) went the distance to earn the win and surrendered just four hits.
Â
The only other TXST player to reach base was
Chase Mora when he drew a free pass in the eighth.
Â
It would be Marshall that got on the board first for the second straight game as it plated two runs in the second. Another two runs would score in the third to put the hosts up 4-0.
Â
The Herd threatened in the sixth when they were able to load the bases. Hall was able to induce a popup for the final out of the fame to escape the jam unscathed and keep TXST within striking distance.
Â
Marshall would tack on a run in the eighth on a double down the third baseline for the final tally of the contest.
Â
The series finale is scheduled for an 11 a.m. CT first pitch.
