SAN MARCOS, Texas – Coming off a 6-1 win over #21 Baylor in the midweek, the Bobcats will host the Troy Trojans tomorrow, April 5, through Sunday, April 7 in a three-game conference play series.
This weekend marks the Bobcats first of four 'Senior Nights' during the Saturday game of the series where the team will be honoring graduating seniors
Karsen Pierce,
Claire Ginder and
Anna Jones.
The series is also Texas State's Youth Weekend with additional activities for kids attending the games. The Friday night game will begin at 6 pm, Saturday at 2 pm and Sunday at 11 am. All three games will be streamed on ESPN+.
LAST TIME OUT:
Last time these Bobcats faced the Trojans they won 3-0 in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament in Lafayette, Louisiana. In the 2023 season the Bobcats suffered two losses and a draw to the Trojans on their visit to Troy in March.
The Bobcats have a 21-10-1 record all time against Troy, including an 11-2 home record. The last time the Bobcats hosted the Trojans, Texas State swept the series with 5-1, 2-1 and 5-2 wins.
ABOUT THE BOBCATS:
Texas State goes into the weekend with a 30-8 record coming off a 6-1 win over #21 Baylor in the midweek. Texas State is ranked #23 in the nation by the ESPN polls, as well as is receiving votes from the NFCA. The team's RPI sits at 13 heading into the game, the highest of any school in the Sun Belt Conference. Texas State is second in the Sun Belt rankings, following only behind Louisiana.
Leading the offense for the Bobcats going into the week is
Hannah Earls who's batting .364. She has 47 hits, 25 runs and five RBI in 125 at-bats.
Sara Vanderford is also helping the Bobcat offense with a .357 batting averaging as she's good for 40 hits, 29 runs and 33 RBI in 112 at-bats. Rounding out the top of the order are
Piper Randolph who's batting .322 and
Anna Jones batting .320.
Jessica Mullins has been the Bobcats ace pitcher this season with her 0.87 ERA. She has pitched 145.1 innings so far this season with 138 strikeouts, 18 earned runs, 22 walked batters and just 16 extra-base hits allowed. She has tossed 13 complete games including one perfect game. She also has three saves on the season.
ABOUT THE TROJANS:
Troy comes into the game with a 26-13 record off a loss to Georgia Tech on Wednesday and a two-game losing streak. The Trojans have won just three road games this season with two of them being at conference opponent Coastal Carolina.
The Trojans have three players hitting over the .350 mark this season including Jade Sinness (.395), Libby Baker (.381), and Cassidy Boltz (.356). Sinness leads most offensive categories for the Trojans including hits (47), runs (38), RBI (37) and total bases (81).
Pitching for the Trojans is likely to be Libby Baker. She has 20 appearances and 17 starts for the Trojans this season. She has a 3.80 ERA with seven complete games. She's pitched 94.0 innings, allowing 83 hits and 55 runs. She has 47 strikeouts so far this season and batters average .240 against her.
UP NEXT:
The Bobcats will head back on the road for a midweek meeting up I-35 at #5 Texas. This will be the second meeting between the Bobcats and the Longhorns this season, after the Longhorns beat the Bobcats 1-0 in San Marcos in March. This game will be at 4:30 pm in Austin and be streamed on the Longhorn Network.
