Ramirez Blasts Two Homers in Bobcats’ Run-Rule Victory

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Senior August Ramirez hit two home runs for the first time in his collegiate career in helping Texas State (21-21) run-rule Incarnate Word (23-16) 10-0 in seven innings Tuesday night at Bobcat Ballpark. The shutout was the first for the Bobcats this season and the first since doing so against ULM on May 20, 2023.

Ramirez drove in five runs as he hit both a two-run and three-run long ball. With his two homers, the Helotes, Texas native became the 21st TXST player to hit 20 or more homers in a Bobcat uniform. He now has 21 to sit in a tie for 16th place in team history.

Also hitting a round tripper on the night was Davis Powell. His was a three-run blast and were the final runs scored in the game.

Ryne Farber continued his hot streak at the plate since returning from injury as he went 2-for-2 with an RBI, a run scored and a double. Aaron Lugo scored twice, hit a double and drove in a run.

On the rubber, Tony Robie (4-3) struck out four in five shutout innings to earn the win. EJ Garcia (0-1) allowed four runs on five hits in 2.1 innings to be credited with the loss.

Both Dalton Buckingham and Taylor Seay tossed one shutout frame apiece out the bullpen.

The scoring for Texas State began in the second. On the 10th pitch he saw in his at-bat, Ramirez blasted a 3-2 offering to left field for a two-run homer.

In the third Chase Mora singled through the left side and stole second to move into scoring position. Farber would follow with a single of his own, this time through the right side, to bring home Mora. Following a Daylan Pena single, Lugo doubled to right that plated a run. Ramirez then cranked a 2-1 offering down the left field line for his three-run shot to increase the lead to 7-0.

The Cardinals nearly got on the scoreboard in the sixth. Tony DeJesus singled to right center that Cade Manning picked up and threw a laser to third. Lugo was able to get the tag on Dalton Beck for the third out just before Rey Mendoza touched home plate to keep the shutout in tack.

Manning led off the bottom of the frame with a four-pitch walk and Ethan Farris followed with an infield single. A 1-1 pitch to Powell saw him blast it just over the left field wall to make it a 10-0 contest.

The Bobcats are back on the road for a Sun Belt Conference series against Arkansas State. Friday's first pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. from Tomlinson Stadium.
