Bobcats Fall to No. 3 Aggies

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State dropped Tuesday's contest to 3-ranked Texas A&M 12-2 in seven innings at Bobcat Ballpark.

With the result, the Bobcats are now 15-14 on the season while the Aggies improved to 26-3.

"It's about a dominant as you can get. That's why they are number three in the country, and they came in and won every facet of the game. Not a great night for the Bobcats," said head coach Steven Trout.

Tony Robie (2-2) started and went three innings with five strikeouts but surrendered four runs on seven hits to take the loss. Earning the win was Zane Badmaev (2-0) after he threw 1.2 scoreless innings of relief with three strikeouts.

Both Taylor Seay and Peyton Zabel recorded two punch outs on the night. Cameron O'Banan did not allow a run in an inning of work.

Recording a hit in the contest was Rashawn Galloway, August Ramirez and Kameron Weil. Two walks were drawn by Chase Mora while Daylan Pena and Ramirez posted one free pass apiece.

Texas A&M jumped out to an early lead with three runs in the first. Ramirez would put Texas State on the scoreboard with a solo home run off the scoreboard in right field. It was his fifth of the season and 19th in his career.

After the Aggies got a run back in the third, Davis Powell was hit by a pitch to start the bottom of the frame. A free pass to Mora and Weil's infield single loaded the bases with one out. However, Badmaev was brought in to pitch and retired the next two batters to end the Bobcat's chance to add to their run total.

The visitors would go on to score seven more runs over the next three innings to take a 12-1 lead.

Lugo would be plunked with one out in the sixth and advance to second on a wild pitch. After Pena was walked, both moved into scoring position on a passed ball. Another wild pitch saw Lugo score what would be the final run of the game.

This weekend sees TXST hit the road to West Virginia to take on Marshall in a three-game series that begins on Friday at 5 p.m. CT.
