Battle of I-35 Ahead for Softball

SAN MARCOS, Texas – In the first game of a seven-game road swing, Texas State softball will head down I-35 for a battle with the UTSA Roadrunners. The game will be at 6 pm on Wednesday, April 17 and streamed on ESPN+.
 
LAST TIME OUT:
Last time these Bobcats faced the Roadrunners they won 2-1 in Bobcats season opener on Feb. 8, 2024. 
 
The Bobcats have an 50-43 record all time against UTSA, including an 18-17 record in San Antonio. The last time the Bobcats went to Roadrunner Field, they won 15-0 in five innings.
 
ABOUT THE BOBCATS:
Texas State goes into the meeting with UTSA with a 33-12 record coming off a 5-0 win to #21 Louisiana in the midweek. Texas State is ranked #22 in the nation by the ESPN polls, and #25 in the NFCA poll. The team's RPI sits at 19 heading into the game, the second highest in the Sun Belt Conference. Texas State is second in the Sun Belt rankings, following only behind Louisiana.
 
Leading the offense for the Bobcats going into the week is Hannah Earls who's batting .378. She has 59 hits, 30 runs and six RBI in 156 at-bats. Sara Vanderford is also helping the Bobcat offense with a .348 batting averaging as she's good for 46 hits, 33 runs and 34 RBI in 132 at-bats. Rounding out the top of the order are Piper Randolph who's batting .321 and Anna Jones batting .306.
 
Jessica Mullins has been the Bobcats ace pitcher this season with her 1.06 ERA. She has pitched 179.0 innings so far this season with 163 strikeouts, 27 earned runs, 35 walked batters and just 23 extra-base hits allowed. She has tossed 15 complete games including one perfect game. She also has three saves on the season.

ABOUT THE ROADRUNNERS:
UTSA comes into the game with a 12-33 record and on a seven-game losing streak. They were swept in their weekend conference series versus Charlotte, losing 10-5, 2-12 and 9-5. The Roadrunners last win came on April 2 vs Lamar where they won 3-0.
 
The Roadrunenrs have just one player batting over .300 this season. Jaylen Prichard is batting .319 on the season with 22 runs and 36 hits with two doubles and 8 RBI. Taylor Jensen leads the team in RBI with 18.
 
Pitching for UTSA is likely to be Jamie Gilbert. She has 29 appearances and 18 starts for the Roadrunners this season. She has a 4.29 ERA with 11 complete games. She's pitched 114.1 innings, allowing 143 hits and 88 runs. She has 84 strikeouts so far this season and batters average .306 against her.

The Bobcats will head to Monroe, Louisiana for a three-game series with ULM this weekend. They will start play on Friday, April 19 at 6 pm. All three games will be streamed on ESPN+.
