HOUSTON – Coming off two big wins at the Astros Foundation College Classic, Texas State saw three players chosen to the all-tournament team.
Chase Mora was chosen as this year's Most Outstanding Player while
Ryne Farber and
Aaron Lugo were named to the all-tournament selections.
Â
Mora led the tournament with 10 RBI while batting .462 (6-for-13) with a double, two runs scored and two walks in three games. The sophomore second baseman hit two home runs as well with the first being a two-run walk-off blast in the classic's opening game against Houston. He followed with a grand slam and finished with five RBI as the Bobcats took down then 15th-ranked Texas 11-10 on Saturday.
Â
The Tomball, Texas native is the second Bobcat to earn the tournament's Most Outstanding Player honor. Claiming the first was right-handed pitcher Nicholas Fraze in 2019.
Â
Farber finished the weekend hitting .417 (5-for-12) with four RBI, four runs scored and one stolen base. He led off the game against the Longhorns with a home run, the first in his career. In that game, the freshman finished 3-for-4 with three RBI and scored twice. This is the second all-tournament team accolade for the San Antonio native after he was named to the Karbach Round Rock Classic all-tournament squad last week.
Â
Lugo was the top third baseman in Houston. The junior posted a .417 batting average after going 5-for-12. He scored thrice, drove in three runs and swiped a base. His biggest hit of the weekend came with two outs in the top of the ninth and a runner on first. While blowing a bubble, Lugo smashed the first pitch to him into the Crawford Boxes for the go-ahead round tripper in the upset win over Texas.
