SAN MARCOS, Texas – Both Alec Patino and Davis Powell hit two-run home runs Friday night at Bobcat Ballpark. However, it would be Louisiana claiming the contest over Texas State 16-5.
With the result, the Bobcats are now 15-12 on the year and 4-4 in the Sun Belt Conference while the Ragin' Cajuns improved to 19-8 overall and 7-1 in league action.
"It was a pretty horrific night. We got beat on all sides of the baseball and were dominated on our home turf. It was a gut check and they got to find a way to salvage the series tomorrow," said head coach Steven Trout.
Sam Hall (1-2) went just two innings and gave up six runs on four hits while striking out three in taking the loss. Chase Mora (2-1) stifled TXST hitters for five innings to earn the win.
Out of the bullpen, Cameron Bush had three strikeouts in three innings with just one run allowed. Also recording a punch out in relief was Dalton Buckingham, Nicholas Holbrook and Cameron O'Banan.
The lone Bobcat with multiple hits was Aaron Lugo with two. Patino scored twice and Rashawn Galloway drove in a run on the night.
Louisiana started the scoring with three runs in both the second and third and added one in the fourth and sixth frames.
Cade Manning started the bottom of the sixth by drawing a walk. He would advance to second on a wild pitch and to third following a ground out to the second baseman. After a free pass worked by Daylan Pena, Galloway hit a deep fly to right field that allowed Manning to tag and score for the Bobcats' first run of the game.
The Cajuns responded with three runs in the next half inning to go up 11-1.
A walk to Patino started off the bottom of the seventh. A 0-1 pitch to Powell was hit over the left centerfield wall for the senior shortstop's first homer of the season.
Patino hit a two-run long ball in the next inning. The round tripper cut the deficit to six but Louisiana put the game away with a five-run ninth.
The series finale is scheduled for a 2 p.m. on Sunday.
