SAN MARCOS, Texas – After placing third and helping lead Texas State men's golf to the team title at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate, Sakke Siltala was named the Sun Belt Conference Men's Golfer of the Week for the period ending March 27, the conference office announced on Thursday.
 
Siltala, a sophomore from Finland, shot 6-under 207 at the three-day tournament in Mobile, which was his second-best 54-hole score this year and lifted him to his best finish of the season. He was even-par or better in all three rounds, including 4-under 67 in the second round on Monday, and was two shots back of the individual winner, Caleb VanArragon of Valparaiso.
 
Siltala was one of three Bobcats in the top-10 of the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate as the team won the tournament by four strokes over Illinois State.
 
Siltala has competed in six of the eight tournaments this season and has two top-five finishes.
 
Siltala is the second Bobcat to win the Sun Belt Golfer of the Week award this year. Jack Burke won the honor last week.
 
Following this weekend off, the Bobcats will compete in the Lewis Chitengwa Memorial in Charlottesville, Va. on April 8-9.
