Bobcats Win the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate

Texas State led wire-to-wire for its first win of the season

MOBILE, Ala. – Texas State went wire-to-wire and won the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate at the Magnolia Grove Golf Course on Tuesday with a team score of 9 under 843 (277-280-286).

The Bobcats, who led after each of the three rounds of the 54-hole tournament, finished off their first tournament win of the season by holding off second-place Illinois State, which was four shots back with a 5 under 847 (284-281-282). The Bobcats entered the final round with an eight-stroke lead and shot 2 over 286 on Tuesday to Illinois State's 2 under 282.

This marks the third season in a row that Texas State has captured at least one tournament title.

Texas State had three players in its lineup shoot even par or better for the tournament, led by Sakke Siltala who finished third. The sophomore carded an even par 71 in the final round and finished 6 under 207 – his second-best 54-hole score of the season – to place a season-best third.

Siltala was also one of three Bobcats to shoot even par 71 in the final round to help the Bobcats hold on to the victory. He was joined by Jack Burke and Kasper Nyland, who both finished the tournament tied for 25th.

Pieter Rossouw Jr. placed in a tie for fifth with a 2 under 211 (68-69-74). It was the sophomore's first top-five finish as a Bobcat and his best 54-hole score this season.

Marcelo Garza turned in his second top-10 finish in a row after he placed tied for 10th with an even par 213 (70-70-73). The senior was tied for sixth at last week's All-American Intercollegiate. The score of 213 was also his best since the Kapolei Invitational in Hawaii in early November.

Terrin Anderson finished tied for 33rd competing as an individual. The senior shot 5 over 218 (77-68-73), which was his best 54-hole score of the year.

Texas State will compete next at the Lewis Chitengwa Memorial in Charlottesville, Va. on April 8-9. It will be the Bobcats' final tournament before the Sun Belt Conference Championship in late April.
