HARRISONBURG, Va. – Sophomore
Sam Hall went the distance in helping Texas State (14-9, 4-1 Sun Belt) defeat James Madison (13-10, 1-4 Sun Belt) 8-1 Saturday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Park to clinch the series.
Â
Hall is the first Bobcat to throw a complete game since
Levi Wells did so against Marshall on Apr. 14, 2023 and the first on the road since Wells went the distance at App State on Apr. 2, 2022. The right-hander (1-1) limited the Dukes to four hits while striking out a career-high seven.
Â
Taking the loss on the rubber was Max Kuhle (1-2) after he gave up four runs on eight hits and three walks.
Â
At the plate, Rasahwn Galloway was 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI and scored a run. Both
Aaron Lugo and
August Ramirez had two base knocks each with two RBI.
Chase Mora scored once, drove in a run, swiped a base while recording two hits and
Kameron Weil finished with two base knocks.
Â
Following back-to-back walks to
Davis Powell and
Alec Patino, respectively, they both moved into scoring position on a passed ball. Lugo hit a deep fly out to right that was caught in foul territory but deep enough for Powell to easily tag and score to put the Bobcats up 1-0 after their first time at the dish.
Â
On the first pitch he saw in the third, Lugo went the other way for a solo shot into the team's bullpen to double TXST's advantage. It was his second home run this weekend and team leading eighth on the year.
Â
Mora doubled to the left centerfield gap and Galloway followed with a double of his own to bring home the sophomore second baseman in the fourth. Texas State added a second run on a throwing error by the Dukes' shortstop to take a 4-0 lead.
Â
JMU got on the scoreboard when Jason Schiavone hit an RBI double to center in the fifth.
Â
The seventh began with Powell getting plunked, Patino lacing a double to right center and Lugo being walked to load the bases. Two batters later, Ramirez sent a 2-0 pitch to right center for a double that plated two runs. The Dukes brought in the infield and Mora sent a single through the left side to bring home the third run of the frame. Galloway would hit a sacrifice fly to bring in the final run of the inning and game.
Â
Sunday sees the first pitch of the series finale scheduled for 11 a.m. CT.
