NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas – Hailey Jones was the lone player to finish under par on the first day of the Texas State Invitational as the graduate student ended the first two rounds in first place on the individual leaderboard and the Bobcats were atop the team standings on Monday at Landa Park Golf Course.
 
Texas State will enter the third and final round on Tuesday with a 31-stroke lead over second place Abilene Christian. The Bobcats have five players in the top-nine of the 80-person field, including four players from the five-person lineup and another as an individual.
 
Jones shot under-par in both of Monday's two rounds, including a one-under 70 in the morning and a two-under 69 in the afternoon. She has now shot under-par in eight of her last nine rounds played.
 
Yvonne Chamness finished Monday in a four-way tie for second-place, trailing Jones by four shots. The sophomore improved from a one-over 72 in the first round to an even-par 71 in the second.
 
Other Bobcats in the top-nine included Carla Bourdeaux (+2, 144) and Matilda Svahn (+2, 144) – who were tied for sixth – and ninth-place Fia Lindblom (+5, 147). Lindblom was the highest player competing as an individual on the player leaderboard.
 
The windy conditions in the morning held the field to only six total rounds under par across the two rounds played on Monday. Jones and Svahn combined for three of those six rounds.
 
Texas State led all teams with 33 birdies in the first two rounds. Svahn and Bourdeaux tied for the lead with nine each. Jones, meanwhile, saved 29 pars to lead the field.
 
Tuesday's final round will start at 8:15 am.
