HUMBLE, Texas – Lifted by shooting under par in both of Monday's two rounds, Texas State women's golf ended day one of the Chevron Collegiate at the Golf Club of Houston (Par 72, 6,171 yards) tied for eighth with a 9-under.
 
In a field of 16 teams all ranked in the top-75 in the country, the Bobcats shot 4-under 284 in round one and 5-under 283 in round two to finish the day in a two-way tie with North Texas for eighth on the team leaderboard. Texas A&M and SMU lead the group by both shooting a 23-under (553).
 
Junia Gabasa, who is competing in her first tournament this season, led all Bobcats with a 7-under 137 (69-68) after two rounds. The senior, who is tied for eighth on the individual leaderboard, had 10 birdies on the day, including seven over 10 holes from No. 6-15 in round two.
 
Yvonne Chamness (T-20, 5-under 139) and Hailey Jones (T-27, 3-under 141) are also in the top-27 of the individual leaderboard. Chamness, who had six birdies against one bogey on Monday, shot 2-under 70 in the first round before making a one-stroke improvement in round two to card a 3-under 69. Jones shot 2-under 70 in round two after a 1-under 71 in the first round. She registered an eagle on the par 5 fourth hole in round one.
 
Fia Lindblom wrapped up day one ranked fifth among the players competing as individuals. The freshman shot 2-over 74 in both rounds and sits in a tie for 60th in the entire individual field with a 4-over 148.
 
The final round on Tuesday will start at 8 am.
