Bobcats Fall to Wildcats in Karbach Round Rock Classic

ROUND ROCK, Texas – For the second straight game, the opposing team got to Texas State's starting pitcher out of the gate as Kentucky went on to claim an 11-5 win Saturday night at Dell Diamond on the second day of the Karbach Round Rock Classic.

With the result, the Bobcats fall to 3-3 on the season while the Wildcats are now 5-1.

For the second straight game, August Ramirez hit a solo home run. The only TXST player to have a multi-hit game was Cameron Thompsson with two base knocks. Driving in two runs was Daylan Pena.

Suffering the loss on the rubber was Jack Stroud (1-1) after he surrendered seven runs on five hits with three strikeouts in 1.2 innings. Niman Dominic (2-0) claimed the win as the lefty went five frames and struck out four while giving up four runs on six hits.

Otto Wofford tossed 2.1 innings out of the pen with three strikeouts. Also punching out three was Rhett McCaffety, doing so in 1.2 innings. Working a scoreless frame was Keller Eberly while also striking out two.

Combined, Bobcat hurlers hit seven batters to set a Karbach Round Rock Classic single-game record.

UK scored three runs during its first time at the plate.

Ramirez got the Bobcats on the scoreboard in the second with a shot to dead centerfield on an 0-1 offering. His second homer of the season traveled 414 feet as it left his bat at 109 mph.

The Wildcats responded in the bottom of the frame with five runs, four of which came on Mitchell Daly's grand slam.

With two on and two gone in the fourth, Pens hit a high fly ball to right center that the UK centerfield lost in the sun. The ball hit the ground and allowed both runners to score. Thompson followed with a seeing-eye single past the third baseman to bring home Pena and cut the deficit to 8-4.

Two more runs would be scored by the Wildcats in the sixth and another in the eighth for a seven-run advantage.

Thompson leadoff the ninth with a single through the left side and would move up to second as the right field dropped a fly ball hit by pinch hitter Samson Pugh. After a wild pitch, Ryne Farber ground out to the shortstop to plate the final run of the game.

Sunday concludes the Bobcats' time at the Karbach Round Rock Classic against Washington State at 4 p.m.
