Karlsen Cards Best Finish of Season, Bobcats Place T-9th

Karlsen shot -3 for the entire tournament to place tied for 14th

MOBILE, Ala. – Tom Roed Karlsen led Texas State with a tied-for-14th finish, his best place this season, as the Bobcats closed out the Hal Williams Collegiate (Par 71, 7,168 yards) at the Magnolia Grove Golf Club on Tuesday.

Texas State finished its first tournament of the spring in a tie for ninth with a 3-over 855 (289-279-287). The 279 in the second round finished as the third-best score in that round among the 14 teams in the field.

"A very up and down performance from the guys this week," said Shane Howell, Texas State head men's golf coach. "I thought we played great in the second round but you have to play three great rounds in order to win tournaments at this level. Very early in the season so we will correct the mistakes and look forward to our next tournament."

Tuesday's play featured the final round as well as the end of Monday's second round after it was postponed due to darkness.

Karlsen had back-to-back 2-under 69s in rounds two and three to finish in the three-way tie for 14th with a 3-under 210. It was the third time in four tournaments that Karlsen scored under par this year.

Pieter Rossouw Jr., in his first collegiate tournament, finished 36th after shooting 2-over 215 (71-72-72). The sophomore scored for Texas State in all three rounds.

Texas State's lowest individual round was logged by Sakke Siltala, who shot a 3-under 68 in the second round. Siltala has carded a score in the 60s in four of his six rounds played this season.

The Bobcats will return to action with the Lake Las Vegas Intercollegiate at the Reflection Bay Golf Club in Las Vegas on Feb. 26-28.
