Bobcats Suffer First Loss of 2024 Season

Box Score SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Bobcats suffered their first loss of the 2024 season by a 6-1 score line on Saturday night after errors plagued the Bobcats despite outhitting Southern Illinois.

The Bobcats lone run of the night came in the 4th innings from Anna Jones who got on base from a single to and advanced from a Karmyn Bass double.

Ciara Trahan led the Bobcats with three hits on three at-bats but was unable to get in the score book.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Maddy Azua started in the circle for the Bobcats. She struck out the first batter but gave up back-to-back hits and hit a batter to load the bases. On a single to left field the Salukis were able to score their first two runs. The next batter up also singled, scoring a third run and on and they tabbed a fourth on a sac-fly before the end of the inning.

In the top of the second Azua gave up two singles before Karsen Pierce came in to close out the inning. Pierce allowed one more hit in the inning, but only gave up one run with the bases loaded.

From there, errors plagued the Bobcats as they tried to find a way to comeback. Both sides were finding hits, but the defense was able to keep more runs off the board on both sides as well. It wasn't until the top of the 5th when SIU tacked on their final run off a tripled and error at the plate.

Pierce closed the game out for the Bobcats, not allowing anymore runs as the Bobcats fell 6-1 on Saturday night.

WHAT HEAD COACH RICCI WOODARD SAID: "Anytime they put up a six hole and only two of them are earned, it's what we just talked about. We didn't do anything very well. We have to come back in 12 hours and do everything better."

UP NEXT: The Bobcats will return to action tomorrow morning again against Southern Illinois. First pitch will be at 9:30 am. The Bobcats will play two games tomorrow with the second being against Creighton at 2 pm in the finale of Texas State tournament.
