Soccer Faces Coastal Carolina in Semifinals

SAN MARCOS, Texas – No. 3 seeded Texas State (11-4-5) will take on No. 7 seeded Coastal Carolina (8-6-6) on Wednesday with a spot in the Sun Belt Championship finals on the line. Kickoff for the match is scheduled for 4 p.m.

About Texas State
Monday saw the Bobcats open the tournament with a 2-0 victory over App State behind goals from Mady Soumare and Mya Ulloa that sent the team into the semifinals for the first time since 2018. The shutout was the fourth straight for TXST and is one shy of tying the program record.
 
With her goal in the quarterfinals, Soumare now has nine this season while Ulloa's goal was her fifth of the year. Netting four goals apiece has been Sydney Bassa and Victoria Meza. Sharing the team lead in assists with five are Chloe Jones, Kaylie Smith and Soumare.
 
Between the posts, Katelyn Chrisman has started the last four matches and extended her personal shutout streak to 409:29 minutes. The senior sports a 0.95 GAA with 22 saves and a .733 save percentage in 10 contests. Also seeing time in goals has been Caitlyn Draper. She has a 1.04 GAA while making 56 saves and having a .824 save percentage in 12 matches.
 
About Coastal Carolina
The Chanticleers entered the Sun Belt Tournament on a two-match losing streak with setbacks to Georgia State and Troy. They bounced back with a 2-1 upset of No. 2 South Alabama in the quarterfinals to make their first trip to the semifinals since 2017. That year saw CCU also enter the tournament as the No. 7 seed and upset Texas State in the first match on its way to the finals. On the road this season, the Chanticleers are 4-3-4 and went 2-2-1 in conference play.
 
Eleanore Ashton, an All-Sun Belt Second Team selection, leads the team with eight goals and 18 points. She is second with 31 shots, 13 shots on goal and two match-winning goals. Tamlyn Parkes comes in with five goals and leads the squad with five assists, 36 shots and 15 shots on frame. The hero offensive on Monday was Julia Ziegenfuss, who netted both of CCU's goals to increase her season total to four.
 
Seeing the most action in goal has been Vivienne Carr. The Lamar transfer has played in 14 matches, starting 13 of them, and sports a 1.24 GAA with 52 saves and a .776 save percentage. Aris Lamanna has made 12 appearances including seven starts. The freshman made three saves against the Jaguars to give her 31 on the season with a .795 save percentage and a 1.01 GAA.
 
Series History
Texas State leads the all-time series 4-3-0. Coastal Carolina won the first three meetings but the Bobcats have won the last four. Three of the four victories for TXST have seen it record a shutout.
 
Last time the teams met was in San Marcos on Oct. 5, 2023 that ended 4-0 with two of the goals being scored by Olivia Wright. The only meeting in the Sun Belt Championship was in the 2017 quarterfinals. Texas State jumped out to an early lead on a goal by Kassi Hormuth but the Chanticleers tied it in the 71st minute and scored the golden goal in the 105th minute.
