Undefeated Streak Ends Friday Night

NORFOLK, Va. – Texas State's 10-match unbeaten streak came to an end Friday night with a 2-0 loss to Old Dominion from the ODU Soccer Stadium. The streak was the fourth longest in program history.

"I thought we played a really good game tonight and had the run of play for a majority of the match. Old Dominion played really well defensively and managed everything we threw their way," said head coach Steve Holeman. "I was happy with our effort tand we have a lot to build on from this game."

The Bobcats fall to 8-4-4 on the season while the Monarchs are now 8-4-2. Both teams have a 4-1-2 record in the Sun Belt Conference.

In the first half, Texas State had a couple of good opportunities. The first was 12 minutes into the contest when a shot by Chloe Jones had to be stopped by a leaping Emily Bredek. Then midway through the 16th minute, Lily Erb took a shot from just outside the box that went slightly over the crossbar.

ODU scored first when Rhea Kijowski put back a rebound off a shot by Yuliia Khrystiuk a minute into the second half. Kijowski would double the lead nearly five minutes later when she again pounced on a rebound, this time off a shot that hit the crossbar.

Texas State faced a packed in offensive half of the field as all 10 field players for the Monarchs sat back and put pressure on the ball. Five shots would be taken over the last 39 minutes with three being on frame. Two came from Kaylie Smith and one off the foot of Helen Alormenu.

Overall, the Bobcats held an 11-9 advantage in shots and 6-5 in shots on goal. Alormenu led the way with four shot attempts off the bench with two being placed on target.

Caitlyn Draper made three saves on the night in her 12th start of the season.
